I just acquired an E. Schmeckbecker W. German
cuckoo clock with regula works, and bearing a number 47308. I acquired it witout instructions.
The chains are pulled up all the way. How do
one get them to release?
The spring on the back door is attached to nothing. Does it need to be attached to something?
In short, how do I make this work?

To adjust a cuckoo clock for time lengthen the pendulum to slow it down, shorten it to make it run faster. This is done by sliding the leaf up or down on the pendulum shaft. replacement Hands and bellows can can be bought at S LaRose inc Greenboro USA Phone 3366211936 Fax 1 800 537 4513 Emailslarose@worldnet.att.net There are some other places that can be found by doing a search in Google but I have had good service from La Rose Do not try and repair a cuckoo clock unless you have some experiance. There are a lot of linkages and they all need to be adjusted correctly or it will not work properly. Please do not spray the movement with oil from a spray can This will gum the movement up and cost more money in the long term. Clocks need very little oil applied. and only to parts that actually rub together. A properly lubricated clock has oil in some places and grease in other places A clockmaker or even a clock repairman will or should know which to use where. In general the more complicated the cuckoo the more expensive it will be to repair. New Movements can be obtained to replace older ones but the value of the clock will be affected if it is done. It was purchased by my uncle for my grandmother while in Germany during WWII in 1943. The clock has been passed down in good working condition to each generation. It is a 1-day musical Traditional Hunting model with three weights. It has run perfectly since December 25, 1944 until this year. I took it to a respected clock repairer because one of the bellows was worn out. When I received it back nothing worked. The hands don't move, the music man doesn't come out or play, the cuckoo doesn't come out or play. I was devastated that they had broken my family heirloom. I was told the clock was shot and could not be fixed. I asked why they broke it, since it had worked before they started to work on it. WELL HERE IS MY QUESTION. Is there anyway to get a completely new insides that matches the original workings for this clock so that they can be inserted in the original clock case. After all these years and the passing of my uncle, grandmother and mother, the appearance has sentimental value to me. brian <bpionke@wi.rr.com> Milwaukee, Wisconsin USA Date: Friday, December 3, 2004 it's well with us in jesus name[amen] danje4life <danje4life@mugu.com> Date: Wednesday, December 1, 2004 I TR YING TO FIND PART CLOCK FORA SCEEMKENBEBER CUCKOO CLOCK, THAT HAS A WEIGHT,DRIVEIN, FOR CUCKOO AND TIME. SABRINA SUARDINI <sabrinasuardini@chartermi.net> GWINN, MICHIGAN USA Date: Saturday, December 20, 2003 I have a cuckoo clock that my husband and I purchased in Aschaffenburg, Germany, 1971. It was made by E. Schmechenbecher and has Serial Nos. G.M. 1884288/1892176. Does anyone possibly know the value of this clock today. It needs to be repaired and I heard it is quite expensive ($100 to $200 and up). If the clock is not worth that much I'm not sure I want to go to the expense of getting it repaired. Ellie Eleanor Wallace <ekaywallace3d@wmconnect.com> Wheeling, West Virginia United States Date: Monday, December 15, 2003 I visited my daughter in Germany during her Air Force tour of duty from 1980 to 1984 (I think). During that time she purchased a E Schmeckenbecher cuckoo clock that has a farmer with a pitch fork chasing a man that goes up and down a ladder with a woman and cuckoo that pop out of separate windows of the cottage. It has been in fairly good shape until my recent move. One of the hands to the clock fell off and the clock has stopped working. This would not seem so odd but my daughter passed this year at only 46 after a bypass and this is one of the few things I feel is a lasting and possibly an heirloom for her grandchildren. It was very ironic that after so many years it would just stop working. Can anyone direct me to someone to repair it so that we can hear and remember her and the wonderful love she was for everyone who knew her. When she gave it to me we would laugh that it represented my deceased husband (Samuel) chasing her boyfriend away. Any assistance would be appreciated. Thank you very much and happy holidays to all. I purchased it in the Black Forest about 6 yr ago. I carried it back to Houston, Texas myself. I also heard a real cuckoo call while I was there! Germany is a beautiful, clean place. It appears Germans don't care for Americans much! My father immigrated to this country from Russia. Russia offered land to German farmers, and after several years, they heard the Govt planned to take the land back. His family fled to the Dakotas here in the U.S. They finally settled in Texas and became dairy farmers. My father had a second grade education. I hope you have found some interest in my story. I love telling it. I am very proud of my father and my German heritage. However, because of Hitler, he was afraid to teach his children his language! Your strong points are that you maintain good customer relations by email. All of our concerns, questions, changes, etc. were answered very rapidly by you. Dealing with a person takes the fear out of using the impersonal internet. Of course there is no need to mention that the clock is a delight, not only to look at but to watch.
