I just acquired an E. Schmeckbecker W. German cuckoo clock with regula works, and bearing a number 47308. I acquired it witout instructions. The chains are pulled up all the way. How do one get them to release? The spring on the back door is attached to nothing. Does it need to be attached to something? In short, how do I make this work? Don

Your clocks are very beautiful. We purchased one for my mother about 2-1/2 years ago. She has since passed away and we treasure her clock and the very happy memories of when we gave it to her. Thank you for making a piece of art that made beautiful memories while she was still with us and after she has passed. She was a very loving 100% German Woman, 2nd generation to the United States.

I own a cookoo clock made in German. It has the seal of authenticity on the side. The roof is blank, but it has a leaf on each side and one on the botton. Also has two birds on each side towards the bottom. It has a 1 day movement, with one song (Edelweiss) and the cookoo every half hour with the hourly one for each hour on clock. It has quit working. The clock itself has this enscribed on it:Hubert Herr Triberg, Germany. On the right side it says "unadjusted and no jewels". Is there a schematic of the clock works? Or, where can I send it to have it repaired? Thanks!

I collect classic and antique clocks and I make sure they run on time. I am not a trader but I won’t say no if someone wants to buy me a clock.

www.klokkensite.nl

That is why I show here my collection of clocks.

Pendulas and table clocks, comtoises, floor and wall clocks, you just name it, you will probably find it here. I have so many that I first will have to sell a clock in order to be able to purchase one.

Please send an email with your questions to klokkensite

This is a great site for getting word of mouth recomendations about where to get clocks repaired.
Satisfied custumers are a clockmakers best publicity.
If you are not able to get a recomendation on this site, look in your yellow pages.
To adjust a cuckoo clock for time lengthen the pendulum to slow it down, shorten it to make it run faster.
This is done by sliding the leaf up or down on the pendulum shaft.
replacement Hands and bellows can can be bought at S LaRose inc Greenboro USA
Phone 3366211936
Fax 1 800 537 4513
Emailslarose@worldnet.att.net
There are some other places that can be found by doing a search in Google but I have had good service from La Rose

Do not try and repair a cuckoo clock unless you have some experiance.
There are a lot of linkages and they all need to be adjusted correctly or it will not work properly.

Please do not spray the movement with oil from a spray can
This will gum the movement up and cost more money in the long term.
Clocks need very little oil applied.
and only to parts that actually rub together.
A properly lubricated clock has oil in some places and grease in other places
A clockmaker or even a clock repairman will or should know which to use where.
In general the more complicated the cuckoo the more expensive it will be to repair.
New Movements can be obtained to replace older ones but the value of the clock will be affected if it is done.
All clocks are repairable if You find the right person.
I have not supplied my Email as I Have enough business in my own country and I would hate to offend somebody by not replying to them.

I am a certified Watch and clockmaker trained at a school in France where I attended full time classes for three years.
I have been repairing clocks and watches for 16 years now and I guess I will still be doing it when I am old and grey.

I have decided to try to find out about and fix the Mantel clock I grew up with 48 years ago. The net has been not much help so, here I am. It it a tambour case type. Has 3 key hole inthe face. The face says STYLE KING and at the bottom MADE IN GERMANY. The movement says CUCKOO CLOCK MFG. Inc. 72131 and hand scribed number 12893622.
It has 5 RODS which are struck every quarter hour and CHIMES on the hour with the most wonderful tone! As a small child these tones are ingrained if you know what I mean.....

I've searched the NET for DIY info, but now it seems I'll need someone help in research. If you can help in my quest, please drop me a line.

Can someone help me out? We just bought a second hand coo coo clock and I don't know anything about them. The "time" weight is at the very top and wont come down. the coo coo clock weight is okay. Does it just need to be cleaned out? I can just bring it in to a clock shop, but does anyone know if i can fix it at home? Does anyone have any good websites for me? I'd love a reply. Thx!

I recently inherited a Black Forest Cukoo clock from my mother. It was purchased by my uncle for my grandmother while in Germany during WWII in 1943. The clock has been passed down in good working condition to each generation. It is a 1-day musical Traditional Hunting model with three weights. It has run perfectly since December 25, 1944 until this year. I took it to a respected clock repairer because one of the bellows was worn out. When I received it back nothing worked. The hands don't move, the music man doesn't come out or play, the cuckoo doesn't come out or play. I was devastated that they had broken my family heirloom. I was told the clock was shot and could not be fixed. I asked why they broke it, since it had worked before they started to work on it. WELL HERE IS MY QUESTION. Is there anyway to get a completely new insides that matches the original workings for this clock so that they can be inserted in the original clock case. After all these years and the passing of my uncle, grandmother and mother, the appearance has sentimental value to me.

My clock is battery operated underneath (Cbattery) There is also a little door at the top with a diagram on the inside of the door of a battery (looks like AA) I have the little round gold-looking balls working. Time is keeping up good. It has a choice of Westminster or other chime with the OFF button on the bottom. These clocks were very poplar here in the 60's and I always wanted one. Do you know how to set the chime? It works perfectly on the quarter hours but does not chime the correct number of chimes on the hour. There are 2 buttons on the bottom -- set -- test. Do not know what these are for. The clock was made in Germany

I recently purchased a musical cuckoo clock while on vacation in Germany. It is a wonderful clock with one day movement. It has 5 large and two small oak leaves with 3 birds, plus, it has the dancing figures. It runs about an hour fast within a 24 hour period. The instructions are not very conclusive and I would like to know how to slow the clock movement. The instructions say something about removing the pendulum and then pusing the pendulum disc a "little down". I'm not so sure about this procedure. Would any of you who understands this procedure please E-mail me and help me out a little. Thanks! Michael Meyer

I loved your site. Although I was looking for the price of a clock I recently purchased I couldn't find it. If you could help I'd appreciate it. Black Forest Wooden Clock, 410 grams,D.M. 2.97. I don't even know how old it is. But the date on the stamp from the Nederland for 50c looks like it says 23 55. I do know it was purchased from Around-The-World Shoppers Club P.O. Box 997 ROTTERDAM and has a German seal on the box also. Please help me if you can I'd appreciate it dearly. THANK-YOU SINCERELY D.B.

Just wanted to let you know that the cuckoo has landed. I received the clock today. It is BEAUTIFUL. We have hung it up at our house just to see it work and it sure looks good on my wall. My mother is lucky that it is her 65th birthday or I may have just kept it for myself. Anyway, I know she will love it. Thank you once again for such a wonderful piece of work, for packing it extremely well and for your extra help in making sure it arrived in time. I have never had any dealings go so smooth. You can be sure I will recommend the Black-Forest-Shop to everyone!

I have a cuckoo clock that my husband and I purchased in Aschaffenburg, Germany, 1971. It was made by E. Schmechenbecher and has Serial Nos. G.M. 1884288/1892176. Does anyone possibly know the value of this clock today. It needs to be repaired and I heard it is quite expensive ($100 to $200 and up). If the clock is not worth that much I'm not sure I want to go to the expense of getting it repaired.

I visited my daughter in Germany during her Air Force tour of duty from 1980 to 1984 (I think). During that time she purchased a E Schmeckenbecher cuckoo clock that has a farmer with a pitch fork chasing a man that goes up and down a ladder with a woman and cuckoo that pop out of separate windows of the cottage.

It has been in fairly good shape until my recent move. One of the hands to the clock fell off and the clock has stopped working. This would not seem so odd but my daughter passed this year at only 46 after a bypass and this is one of the few things I feel is a lasting and possibly an heirloom for her grandchildren. It was very ironic that after so many years it would just stop working. Can anyone direct me to someone to repair it so that we can hear and remember her and the wonderful love she was for everyone who knew her. When she gave it to me we would laugh that it represented my deceased husband (Samuel) chasing her boyfriend away.

Any assistance would be appreciated.

Thank you very much and happy holidays to all.

Just want you to know that I purchased a cuckoo clock for my parents for Xmas
and had a minor problem after two months.I contacted Mr.Hans-Georg Scheurer who could'nt have been more helpful. Not only did he send me a new cuckoo clock but allowed me to keep the defective clock until the new one arrived. Its actions like this that separate the truly customer service minded companies from all the rest.I certainly will recommend anyone who is interested in purchasing a cuckoo clock to purchase one from the Black-Forest Shop.

I just want to let all of you know DO NOT PURCHASE A GRANDFATHER CLOCK FROM DOLD EXQUISIT. I purchased one and paid for shipping. It's been 8 months and I still don't have my clock. Repeated attempts to contact that company have been in vain. They will gladly sell you a clock, take you money, but will not deliver the goods.
Their management (Henri) refuses to help me and says that I must contact their factory. Their factory has never answered their phone. This is a scam! There website is www.clock-factory-dold-exquisit.com This is just a cautionary warning to all of you so that you don't make the same mistake I did. Their company is garbage.

I love my clock. I purchased it in the Black Forest about 6 yr ago. I carried it back to Houston, Texas myself. I also heard a real cuckoo call while I was there! Germany is a beautiful, clean place. It appears Germans don't care for Americans much! My father immigrated to this country from Russia.
Russia offered land to German farmers, and after several years, they heard the Govt planned to take the land back. His family fled to the Dakotas here in the U.S. They finally settled in Texas and became dairy farmers. My father had a second grade education. I hope you have found some interest in my story. I love telling it. I am very proud of my father and my German heritage. However, because of Hitler, he was afraid to teach his children his language!

One of the nicest gifts you can give or receive is an "original" from the Black Forest Shop. A cuckoo clock with music, which is what I purchased, adds a new dimension of charm to any home. I highly recommend one to friends and visitors of this Web site.

I recently purchased the 8MT-4 mini cuckoo clock. Before and after purchase Herr Scheurer was exceptionally prompt in answering every email I sent to him. The clock arrived in fine condition in only about two weeks after placing my order using standard shipping. The workmanship of this clock is wonderful especially given the inexpensive price. We had been looking for clocks for quite some time and I know I could not have found a nicer clock at this price or better service. Highly recommended.

Dear Mr. Scheurer,
We are impressed with the ease of ordering a clock by
internet from you. Your strong points are that you
maintain good customer relations by email. All of our
concerns, questions, changes, etc. were answered very
rapidly by you. Dealing with a person takes the fear
out of using the impersonal internet.
Of course there is no need to mention that the clock
is a delight, not only to look at but to watch. The
carved bird is exceptionally realistic. Actually, the
clock was a gift for my mother but now I don't think I
want to give it up.

I fell in love with Germany. I loved the castles, the food, the old buildings and the day-dream provoking black forest (or swarz wald) Everyone was so friendly and welcoming I had a wonderful time and I will be going back. Being only 16 I had never seen anything like it, it was just like an old novel. I attended school in staufen, and stayed with my host family in Biengen, I travelled through the blck forest and visited the castle in Staufen many times. Hello,
I found your site by looking up information on my 87" high Black Forest
cockoo clock, thats right, over 6 foot tall. It has a deer with antlers on top
with a pair of rifles on either side, it
has carved bone minute and hour hands, it
has 3 weights, a quarter hour quale and a cockoo on the hour and the 3 rd weight is for the clock. It has a big
life size rabit on the left side and a pheasent on the right side. My clock man said he thinks the clock is 100 years old or older. Do you know who might have made the clock or was there a company back then that made this big clock? Any help you could give me would be appreciated. Thank you and I can't waite to visit the Black Forest area and see this rich place in history and have some schnitzal.

Thank you,

Bob McGraw

We received a cuckoo clock from relatives of ours in Germany for a Wedding Present. We wanted something authentic and a keepsake from my mother-in-laws homeland. We love it. Everyone has commented on it. In fact friends of ours are getting married next month and their brother wants to purchase one for them. My husband searched the internet and found your site. We were surprised to realize that it was the same maker of the one we received last year. We have connected our friend's brother to your site to maybe purchase one. It is beautiful. We will cherish it forever.

I was in Frankfurt, Germany last month. My first time there. I purchased a Black Forest original Kuckucksuhr (Coo Coo Clock. Unfortunately, all the directions were in German only. I have understood the pictures, and seem to have it hung properly. However, I cannot make it continue to run. If I remove the wooden part that hangs from the wire pendelum, it runs ok, but to fast. When I hang the pendelum, it runs for about a minute and stops. I have slid the "leaf" up and down the wooden peg, but with no good results. Can you help me?
Thank you.
